Leaving... on a jetplane....
Right now I'm sitting in Starbucks, waiting to head off to Sydney from Jakarta (nearly 24-hours for the journey) to join Marcello Stanley, my fellow Google Educator Group West Jakarta alumni. We two educators were chosen from the SE Asian applicants to represent Indonesia at the Google Certified Innovator programme in Sydney this week.
"Candidates for the Google for Education Certified Innovator program are selected based on their professional experience, their passion for teaching and learning, their innovative use of technology in school settings and their potential impact on other educators. They are ambassadors for change who empower other educators and students through a thriving innovation culture within their own classrooms, schools and organizations."
Our Dream - to inspire students to be innovative - so we model it where ever we can
Check out this 5th grader's innovation that brightens a community. Schools and colleges can create possibilities, not just churn out graduates with qualifications. It's pretty cool to be honored and also supported by the Google company, even as they support outrageous ideas through the Moonshot Xprize programme (2016) and other strategies to see innovative ideas come to life.
Marcello and I both have projects that we are passionate about, and now we get to collaborate with mentors and fellow awardees from around the world to see those passions become real outcomes in the real world, using Google's tools to empower communities of learning.
Marcello's great idea - connecting educators to save time, problem solve and increase learning
Mystery Skypes are the global guessing-game that gets kids learning about geography, culture, and the similarities and differences of how children live all over the world. I will be sharing how educators can remove the walls, reduce barriers and open learning to a new generation of students! Learn how it works and how you can connect for free with educators and students around the world. Students and teachers can gain unprecedented access to experts, explorers, scientists and leaders from around the world. Check out the Live Skype Lesson Event with Arctic Explorer Mark Wood below.
