A 1AM arrival couldn't hold back the iPad Training at Springfield Raffles Hills - Classroom & iTunes U
Despite arriving back in Jakarta at 1AM this morning, Mr Rod and Ms Trish convened a great afternoon of ICT PD with 30 committed teachers. Four (4!) trainers from Apple's partner iBox were in attendance, which ensured excellent group support while Ari led the session.
Today we saw the new Apple Classroom app. This new tool allows a teacher to manage in a very simple app, her students and their device use. We saw that a teacher can:
iTunes U is a content management tool in iTunes. Instructors can create content or gather content, organise it and share it with students and classes.
All students and teachers need to have their own Apple ID. This enable individual students to have their progress tracked and reported in iTunes U.
iTunes U also has its own Video / Podcast with a 25 part programme. Click the image to the left to access it. This course will cover instructional design best practices for iTunes U via video tutorials and bulleted guides. Each area of iTunes U course manager will be covered, as well as information on lecture capturing and document formatting. Says Jeanne, "This is an amazing resource! It makes creating an iTunes course extraordinarily simple!"
Each course created by an instructor can include any online content - text, websites, videos etc. - and files that amy be uploaded by the course creator. Virtual reality, 360 degree panoramas (as you can see in the Fighter Pilot video above), Google Map apps etc. are all easy to use within the system.
A useful feature with iTunes U is the 'download to watch later' feature is available from Youtube.
So, if your school has teachers and students with their won iPads (v.2 and above) Apple Classroom for device management and iTunes U for creating course content will be a great option.
